Why Are M.D.s Against Supplements?

It seems like every time I visit a physician, I am told to discontinue whatever supplements I am taking, whether it is a vitamin and mineral or an ocular supplement or additional protein support. They simply claim, “they don’t work”, “they’re a waste of money”, and “they may conflict with your medication”. Really? Or could there be another reason as identified in this article?

I take supplements everyday and I feel great. I don’t get colds nearly as often as when I was growing up and I am a daily exerciser with no pains or aches. Why would I consider eliminating from my regime the supplements that I feel are responsible? The answer is: I wouldn’t. I check carefully to make sure there are no contra-indications with any scripts I may be taking (there are few), but my supplementation increases the quality of my life.

There are studies that indicate that supplements are worthless and the ones they have data on, may be, but there is a recent study done in Freiburg, Germany that is brand specific and independent that shows profound advantages to supplementation. The study even estimates incremental increases in life expectancy. If you would like to find out more and see a synopsis of the study, contact me and I will be happy to share it with you. Remember doctors are in the business of curing and most spend little time on prevention. Is it their revenue stream or their true opinions that stand in the way? You be the judge.
